Angel Babies Matter Network Joins Hands with Alpha Kappa Alpha and Alpha Phi Alpha for MLK Day Community Service Day

In a poignant tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Angel Babies Matter Network united with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® Chi Omicron Omega Chapter and Alpha Alpha Eta Omega Chapter, as well as Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.® Sigma Gamma Lambda Chapter for an impactful MLK Day Community Service Day.

A Sobering Reality: The event began with a stark reminder of the prevalence of pregnancy loss and its mental health impact. Statistics revealed that 1 in 4 moms will experience loss each year, and 1 in 6 moms will be diagnosed with mental health disorders, including Post-partum Depression and PTSD. An alarming 24,000 mothers in the United States suffer pregnancy loss annually.

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: The collaboration between Angel Babies Matter Network, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity served as part of the International We Are One: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service initiative. This special day brought members together to honor Dr. King’s legacy while engaging in meaningful community service projects.

A Day of Impactful Service: Volunteers from the organizations worked diligently to assemble 200 care packages that will provide mental health resources and tokens of love and support to grieving moms. These care packages include thoughtful items such as handmade mini baby quilts, healing garden seeds, ABMN journals, wristbands/buttons, Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) blue and pink ribbons, angel keychains, scented candles, NAMI pamphlets, crisis hotline information, handwritten notes, and invitations to join NAMI Healing Circle and Angel Babies Matter Network.

Culminating in Celebration: The event, hosted at Crave Fusion Bistro and Cocktails, offered a platform for volunteers to delve deeper into Angel Babies Matter Network’s mission. Founder Danielle Saizan Houston shared insights, accompanied by a soulful performance from songstress Tiffani R. Singz and powerful poetry by Freestyle Felicia. The volunteers were treated to a delectable brunch as a token of appreciation from Crave Fusion Bistro and Cocktails.

Delivering Comfort to Hospitals: The impact of this community service day extended beyond the event venue. The care packages, assembled with care and compassion, were delivered to seven different hospitals, including HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake, HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress ER, Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, Houston Methodist Tomball ER, Houston Methodist Willowbrook, HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball, and HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast.

Angel Babies Matter Network, in collaboration with Alpha Kappa Alpha and Alpha Phi Alpha, stands as a beacon of support, bringing comfort, awareness, and resources to mothers navigating the challenging journey after pregnancy loss.
