Angel Babies Matter Network Joins Forces with NAMI for Mental Health Awareness Walk

Angel Babies Matter Network is proud to announce its participation in the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 9 am to 12:30 pm. The walk, a crucial step in raising awareness and dismantling the stigma surrounding mental illness, aims to support mothers and families who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss.

Angel Babies Matter Network encourages individuals to join their team for the NAMI Walk, emphasizing the importance of unity in raising awareness for mental health services and resources available to mothers after pregnancy and infant loss. The event holds significance as 24,000 mothers and families in the United States undergo the emotional journey of grief each year. Shockingly, 1 in 4 women will experience pregnancy and infant loss, and 1 in 6 women will face a mental health disorder following a stillbirth, often with suicidal ideation. Even with Houston being home to the world’s largest medical system, Texas received a disheartening “D” grade from the March of Dimes for the 1977 infants lost last year. Harris County’s infant mortality rate increased from 11.1 to 11.6 percent, highlighting the urgency of addressing mental health challenges in the community. The NAMI Walk serves as an opportunity to show solidarity with grieving mothers. Since 2022, Angel Babies Matter Network has provided care packages to 250 mothers across seven different hospitals, fostering partnerships with funeral homes and community service organizations. Participants are encouraged to wear Angel Babies Matter Network t-shirts, available for purchase on their website, or don festive PINK AND BLUE attire for the walk. The event promises a great time together, celebrating moms and their angel babies who matter.

Free parking is available at 1500 Memorial Drive (cross street is Houston Ave), specifically in LOT H (400 spaces available). NAMI volunteers in bright vests will guide participants to the back of the parking lot where the sidewalk begins.
